ROC CAROLUS Nijmegen
Nijmegen – The new accomodation of the ROC Carolus (Intermediate Vocational Education) covers 30.000m and has been divided into seperate building components which virtually float into a sea of glass. The buildings are accessible from the central interior Plaza. The ground level, designed to be publicly accessible, houses shops, a bakery, barbers and more, so students can have an internship at their own school. More private rooms are located at the higher levels of the building. Bridges across the Plaza provide passage between the building components, simultaneously giving the passer-by a spectacular view of liveliness downstairs. The most characteristic element of the ROC is the dazzling facade. The elements needed to be cost conscious but also of high quality. Therefore we designed a number of repeating basic elements which can be rotated and randomly mounted.
